Mumbai, January 25: A massive traffic jam has been reported on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway since around 8:30 AM on Saturday, causing major inconvenience to thousands of commuters. The congestion has been attributed to a surge in vehicle movement due to the ongoing long weekend, with holidaymakers heading towards Pune, Lonavala, and nearby tourist destinations.

According to authorities, several stretches of the expressway are witnessing slow-moving traffic, leading to extended travel times. Vehicles have been reportedly stuck for hours in certain sections, especially near bottleneck zones and toll plazas. Emergency services and highway patrol teams have been deployed to manage the situation and ensure smooth flow wherever possible.

Officials have urged motorists to avoid non-essential travel on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway until traffic conditions improve. Commuters traveling for urgent reasons are advised to plan their journeys carefully and stay updated with real-time traffic alerts.

As an alternative, travelers are being advised to use the old Mumbai–Pune highway, which is currently experiencing comparatively lesser congestion. However, drivers are also being asked to exercise caution while using the old route due to narrow roads and local traffic movement.

Authorities have also appealed to tourists and weekend travelers to postpone their trips if possible, in order to ease pressure on the expressway. Regular commuters are advised to start early, follow lane discipline, and cooperate with traffic personnel on duty.

The situation is being closely monitored, and authorities expect traffic flow to gradually normalize later in the day. Travelers are advised to remain patient and prioritize safety while on the road.
