What is Mazi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana?

The Mazi Kanya Bhagyashree Yojana is a flagship scheme designed to encourage families to welcome and support girl children. It provides financial assistance at different stages of a girl’s life, ensuring long-term benefits and security.

Eligibility Criteria

The scheme primarily targets economically weaker sections. Families with an annual income of up to ₹7.5 lakh are eligible to apply. Earlier, the income limit was ₹1 lakh, but it has since been revised to include more beneficiaries.

Family Planning Condition

To avail of the scheme, parents must undergo a family planning procedure after the birth of the girl child. Additionally, benefits are limited to a maximum of two daughters per family.

Financial Benefits

Under the scheme:

  • ₹50,000 is deposited in the name of the girl child
  • An accident insurance cover of ₹1 lakh is provided
  • Financial assistance is distributed in phases until the girl turns 18

Education-Based Incentives

To promote education, financial support is provided at key milestones:

  • ₹5,000 at birth
  • ₹6,000 on admission to Class 1
  • ₹7,000 on entering Class 6
  • ₹8,000 on admission to Class 11

These incentives aim to reduce the financial burden on families and ensure continued education for girls.

Lump Sum Benefit at 18

Once the girl turns 18, she receives a lump sum amount of ₹75,000. In total, beneficiaries can receive financial assistance of approximately ₹1.01 lakh, making it a substantial support system for higher education or future needs.

A Step Towards Women Empowerment

The scheme is not just about financial aid but also plays a crucial role in changing societal attitudes towards the birth of girls. By offering economic incentives and educational support, the government aims to create a more positive and inclusive environment for girl children.
