Pune, 27 February 2024 : The fifth edition of ‘Pune International Business Summit 2024’ ( PIBS)  organized by the MAHRATTA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, INDUSTRIES, AND AGRICULTURE ( MCCIA) is being held in Pune at S. L. Kirloskar International Convention Centre, JW Marriott, Senapati Bapat Road. 

The two-day summit was inaugurated on Monday, February 26.

Diplomats and Trade Commissioners from 10 countries have participated in this summit. 

On this occasion, Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs & Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Government of India, addressed the gathering through an exclusive video message. 

The honorable minister said, “The MCCIA has been a strong pillar in fostering economic growth and development in Pune for nearly 8 decades. Empowering about a thousand women through their Center of Excellence for Women, the organization has done commendable work in line with the vision articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Pune influenced by the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is a crucial place for cultural heritage, education, and innovation, the city started as a major manufacturing point with a robust supply chain ecosystem, that has become a key player in global industry. A strong foundation in the IT industry coupled with entrepreneurship has paved the way for start-up culture in Pune. 

The new India strives for inclusive and sustainable growth. The minister highlighted the role of Pune in manufacturing the indigenous vaccine during the pandemic time, with the country’s achievement in the digital sector, India has become a leader in the digital world, with the initiatives and efforts of Indian governments, India the best destination for manufacturing sector also there are an array of opportunities for various sectors. With the vision of Viksit Bharat, India will thrive for further growth in upcoming years, said the minister. 

In his welcome address, Deepak Karandikar highlighted the contribution of MCCIA to the business sector including, bringing some of the multinational companies to the information technology sector. Setting up various facilities for MSMEs, and women entrepreneurs, and also hosting Indian and Foreign delegations to encourage the business sector in Pune and Maharashtra. He also highlighted the focus areas of PIBS this year. It includes Emerging trends in International Trade and Investments, Strengthening the existing Global Supply Chains and developing alternative ones, Business Partnerships with Companies from India and abroad, Exploring Global Prospects for SMEs, Start-Ups, and Women-led businesses, and exploring the role of Technology in enabling international business growth.” 

Prashant Girbane, DG, MCCIA, in his opening address gave insight into two aspects of the business including investment and exports and how Pune is standing at an important place in global ranking with regards to these two aspects. He mentioned that Pune and Maharashtra have the highest investment and Pune district is number 1 in engineering goods exports.”

He highlighted the role of MCCIA in holding 171 business programs with more than 8000 individual participants within a year. He also underlined that the chamber hosted 16 consul generals from various countries, and ambassadors and 40 government officials including ministers from the Center and State, and how the organization has provided them the insight of business sector in Pune.”

Consul general at the US Consulate General, Mumbai, Mike Hankey, on Monday stressed that the US Consulate and MCCIA’s first ever cyber security initiative in Pune is aimed at combating identity theft-related scams, intellectual property rights’ violations, cybercrimes and a host of other cyber challenges.
