For the past three months, Pune’s temperatures have been consistently above average. The winter season itself was marked by cloudy weather, humidity, and fluctuating temperatures.

According to former head, IMD Pune, weather forecasting Dr Anupam Kashyapi, it was for the first time that Koregaon Park temperature reached upto 40.2 Deg C in March.
Temperature Trends Over the Years
According to IMD data, from 2014 to 2024, the average maximum temperature in Shivajinagar during March has ranged between 33.4°C and 36.7°C. However, this year, the heat has intensified from the beginning of March.
- 2023: Maximum temperature recorded was 39.5°C
- 2022: Peaked at 39.7°C
- 2019: March saw a high of 40.8°C
- 2025: On Wednesday, Lohegaon recorded 40.2°C
For the past two days, Lohegaon, Koregaon Park, and Chinchwad have seen temperatures touching 40°C, while Shivajinagar, Pashan, and Magarpatta recorded around 39°C.
Why is Pune Experiencing a Heatwave?
According to IMD, the clear skies, low humidity, and strong solar radiation have contributed to the rising temperatures. The presence of an anti-cyclonic system is further increasing the heat.
Additionally, northern states are also witnessing rising temperatures, while Gujarat and Mumbai have been experiencing a heatwave for the past two days. Pune’s current temperatures are three degrees Celsius above normal, but a slight drop is expected from Friday.
