Ministers Must Undergo RT-PCR Test Before Meeting PM Amid Rising Covid Cases
In response to the recent surge in Covid-19 cases across the country, an RT-PCR test has been made mandatory for all ministers and leaders scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence this evening, sources confirmed.
Approximately 70 BJP functionaries from Delhi — including Delhi Chief Minister, all seven Members of Parliament (MPs), and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) — will undergo testing before the high-level meeting. The gathering is being hosted by PM Modi following the BJP’s strong performance in the Delhi Assembly elections. A dinner is scheduled at 7:30 PM.
The precaution comes as India recorded over 7,000 active Covid-19 cases, according to the Union Health Ministry’s latest update. In the past 24 hours alone, the country logged 306 new infections and six deaths. Kerala reported the highest number of new cases (170), followed by Gujarat (114), and Karnataka (100). Delhi reported 66 new cases, pushing its active caseload to 757.
Kerala continues to lead with over 2,000 active cases, followed by Gujarat, West Bengal, and Delhi. Despite the increase, officials state that most infections are mild in nature.
To address the rising trend, the Centre has initiated nationwide mock drills to evaluate hospital preparedness. States have been instructed to ensure the availability of oxygen supply, ventilators, isolation beds, and essential medications.
As Covid cases rise, authorities urge citizens to stay vigilant and adhere to safety protocols, especially ahead of public events and political gatherings.
