Mohammadwadi residents worry due to illegal liquor selling stall

Pune: Residents of Mohammadwadi area are in distress due to an illegal liquor-selling stall running in a secluded area in Mohammadwadi near Elina Living.

A den like structure has been formed by the miscreants.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, a resident of Mohammadwadi, requesting anonymity said, “This has started a couple of days back where people have started selling liquor. The spot is such a secluded one that you can’t even see quickly that something is going on here. The area is just opposite Elina Living Society. I am an animal feeder so, for several years, I have been going over there. However, I have never noticed such a thing being run there before.”

He further stated, “Many labourers and other men are gathering here and drinking. This needs to be checked. The den is being run by a woman and one young guy. While we were there, these two came back and were begging us to let them continue because this is their main income. Most of their customers are labourers. This is happening under our noses and it’s going unnoticed because of the secluded spots they have selected. Many dog walkers, pet parents walk their pets there, god forbid anything untoward happens, who’s responsible?”

Another resident stated that the illegal liquor is being sold by a lady and whenever the residents inform the police they run away from the police and come back within a few days. Strict action is needed. NIBM Annexe is a reputed area such illegal things must not happen.

Santosh Sonawane, Senior Police Inspector, Kondhwa Police Station said, “We were approached by the residents and definitely take action against the miscreants and close down such illegal business.”
