Mumbai, June 1, 2026: The India Meteorological Department and state authorities have indicated that while weather conditions across Maharashtra are beginning to change, the southwest monsoon is unlikely to arrive in most parts of the state before June 10.

According to the forecast, the week beginning June 1 is expected to witness further changes in weather patterns. Parts of Vidarbha, Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra and Khandesh are likely to experience cloud development during the afternoon hours, accompanied by scattered thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall. Some rainfall activity is also expected in the Konkan region.

Meteorologists have clarified that the anticipated thunderstorm activity is not linked to the onset of the monsoon, as the southwest monsoon has not yet reached Kerala. Based on current weather conditions, there is little possibility of the monsoon advancing into most parts of Maharashtra before June 10.

The forecast also suggests a decline in maximum temperatures across the state compared to May. However, some areas of Vidarbha, particularly East Vidarbha, are expected to continue experiencing temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.

The Agriculture and Disaster Management Departments have appealed to farmers and residents to take necessary precautions in view of the changing weather conditions.

Advisory for Farmers and Citizens:

Farmers should not rush into sowing operations based solely on pre-monsoon thunderstorm activity and should wait for the actual arrival of the monsoon.

During thunderstorms and lightning, citizens and farmers should ensure their own safety as well as that of their livestock.

People should avoid taking shelter under trees, tin sheds, or standing near electrical transformers, power poles, and overhead power lines during lightning activity.

Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and follow weather advisories as the state transitions into the monsoon season.
