MP Dr. Amol Kolhe Calls Gor Immediate Ban On Maharashtra Enviro Power Over Severe Water Pollution
MP Dr. Amol Kolhe has called for an immediate ban on the Maharashtra Enviro Power Company (MEPL) due to severe water pollution issues in the Ranjangaon Industrial Area. During a Zero Hour discussion in Lok Sabha, Dr. Kolhe highlighted the environmental damage inflicted by MEPL, which has been a growing concern for local farmers from villages including Annanpur, Nimgaon Bhogi, Dhoksangvi, Kardelwadi, Saradwadi, and others.
Despite persistent complaints from these communities, both MEPL and the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) have ignored calls for action. Recent tests by private laboratories have detected dangerous metals such as nickel, cadmium, and lead in the water discharged by MEPL, but the MPCB has continued to overlook these findings and provide the company with clean reports.
Dr. Kolhe emphasized that the Ranjangaon Industrial Area is designated as a non-chemical zone, making the discharge of chemical-laden water by MEPL particularly concerning. This pollution has severely contaminated local wells and ponds, leading to barren farmlands and widespread environmental degradation. In response, Dr. Kolhe has urged for urgent measures to restore the affected water sources and soil to mitigate the damage caused by the pollution.
