MPhil is not recognized as a degree; UGC to universities
The University Grants Commission (UGC) issued a warning to universities on Wednesday, informing them that MPhil degrees are not recognized and advising prospective students not to enroll in such courses.
The UGC has learned that some universities are accepting new applications for the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) program. This is to inform you that the MPhil degree is not an officially recognized degree.
Higher education institutions are not permitted to offer MPhil programs, according to Regulation No. 14 of the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of PhD Degree) Regulations, 2022, according to UGC Secretary Manish Joshi.
The MPhil degree course that all universities offered would no longer be recognized, according to the commission, which had already announced that MPhil programs would no longer be offered by higher education institutions. Furthermore, it has been requested that the university’s administration take prompt action to stop taking on new MPhil program applicants for the 2023–2024 academic year.
Meanwhile, UGC Secretary Manish Joshi has also advised the students that they should not take admission for MPhil in any way.
