MPSC Announces Overhaul Of Exam Pattern From March 2026
Mumbai, December 29, 2025: The Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has announced sweeping changes to the format of its objective-type examinations, which will come into effect for all exams conducted on or after March 1, 2026. The revised system aims to enhance transparency, bring greater discipline to the evaluation process, and reduce ambiguity during assessment.
One of the key changes is the introduction of five answer choices for every objective question, instead of the existing four. Candidates will be required to mark one option for each question without exception. According to officials, if a candidate leaves a question unanswered, 25 percent of the marks allotted to that question will be deducted. The additional fifth option has been introduced for candidates who are unable to choose from the four given answers, ensuring that at least one option is selected for every question.
The MPSC has also redesigned the answer sheet format. Under the new system, the answer sheet will be divided into two separate sections. The first section will contain only the candidate’s responses, while the second section will include personal and examination-related details such as the candidate’s name, seat number, subject code, question paper number, and signature. After the examination concludes, supervisors will separate these two sections to maintain confidentiality and ensure impartial evaluation.
In addition, the commission has underlined strict guidelines regarding the validity of answer sheets. Any answer sheet will be deemed invalid if a candidate fails to sign it, uses a pen other than a black ballpoint pen, or makes unnecessary markings, symbols, or additional notes on the sheet.
The MPSC has urged candidates to carefully read and adhere to the revised instructions, as even minor deviations could lead to disqualification. These new rules will be uniformly applicable to all MPSC examinations held after March 1, 2026, making it essential for aspirants to familiarise themselves with the updated exam pattern well in advance.
