Pune: Residents Raise Safety Concerns Over Hazardous Open Well in Dhanori, Demand Immediate PMC Action
Pune, June 23, 2026: A potentially dangerous open well located near the water tank on Bharat Mata Road in the Dhanori Jakat Naka area has become a serious safety concern for local residents, social activist Pradeep Rawate has alleged. Situated along a busy roadside, the well poses a significant risk to pedestrians and motorists due to the heavy movement of people and vehicles in the area.
According to local residents, the well lacks protective barricades or safety railings. The absence of adequate lighting during nighttime further increases the danger, particularly for schoolchildren, pedestrians, and motorists using the road.
Rawate pointed out that the area is surrounded by residential buildings, schools, and a major road that witnesses round-the-clock traffic, making the situation even more alarming.
He stressed that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) must treat the issue with urgency, especially in light of recent tragic incidents reported from Nashik, Dindori, and Pandharpur.
He has urged the civic administration to immediately install protective fencing around the well, improve lighting in the vicinity, and implement all necessary safety measures to prevent any untoward incidents.
Local residents have also appealed to the PMC to take swift action and address the hazard before it leads to a serious accident.
