The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has initiated the third phase of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway expansion, connecting the districts of Bhandara, Gondia, and Gadchiroli.

The project includes the construction of a 127 km access-controlled expressway from Nagpur to Gondia, a 28 km stretch from Bhandara to Gondia, and a 194 km stretch from Nagpur to Chandrapur.

The total cost of the project is estimated at Rs 18,475.2 crore.

The expansion aims to reduce commuting time in the easternmost districts of Maharashtra, fostering new opportunities.

The Samruddhi corridor is a 700 km expressway connecting Mumbai to Nagpur.

This stretch was inaugurated into two phases between December 2022 and May 2023.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 520 km stretch between Nagpur and Shirdi in December 2022, and the one between Shirdi and Bharvir was inaugurated in May 2023 by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

However, progress is underway on the remaining 101 km stretch, with plans to open it to traffic by July of the current year
