Mumbai : 1300 reported ill during MTHL inauguration programĀ

Mumbai Trans Harbour Link road records remarkable traffic of 30,000 vehicles daily and high toll collection figures
Approximately 1,300 out of 1.5 lakh attendees at the Prime Minister’s program in Navi Mumbai reported feeling unwell due to dehydration, acidity, and body ache. Immediate medical attention was provided at ambulances and a makeshift hospital near the venue, offering basic treatment for those affected. Despite the substantial number, officials assure that it falls within the expected norms for such large-scale events.
The Raigad district administration downplayed the significance of the reported illnesses, citing that in any massive gathering, around two percent of attendees are anticipated to experience health issues, with about 10% of them requiring admission. 14 individuals needed further attention, with two of them briefly admitted to MGM hospital.
The medical preparedness at the event received appreciation from the Special Protection Group (SPG) Commandos of the Prime Minister. The makeshift hospital, equipped with 250 beds and 500 on standby, aimed to prevent a recurrence of the Kharghar tragedy from a previous rally, addressed by Home Minister Amit Shah last year.
Additionally, 50 ICU and ventilator beds were available, and approximately 2,200 beds across nearby hospitals were reserved for any unforeseen circumstances.
Dr. Nitin Deomane, Raigad district civil surgeon, highlighted the extensive medical preparations, including a reserve stock of three large vehicles with various medicines and specialty doctors. The medical team provided swift assistance, addressing complaints of acidity, body pain, and dehydration among the affected individuals. ORS, glucose, and other essential medications were administered, and water and food facilities were readily available from the parking area to the seating arrangement, ensuring attendees had easy access to refreshments.
Out of the 1,300 reported illnesses, 14 individuals underwent further tests at MGM Kamothe hospital, with only two requiring overnight admissionāone for high blood pressure and the other due to severe dehydration. Dr. Deomane emphasized the overall success of the medical response, emphasizing the thorough preparations and the dedication to handling any health-related challenges during the event.
