Mumbai: 27-year-old woman dies after over speeding SUV rams her in Malad; driver arrested
The accused driver took her to the hospital with others, where the doctors declared her dead.
A 27-year-old woman succumbed to injuries after a speeding car hit her, Mumbai police officials said on Wednesday, September 4.
The incident took place on Tuesday night, September 3, in Gudiya Pada locality of Malad West around 10 pm.
According to the police, the driver ran over the woman and dragged her for some distance, leading to severe injuries. The accused driver took her to the hospital with others, where the doctors declared her dead.
The woman, identified as Shahana Kazi, was reportedly going home after attending a mehendi art class when a speeding Ford SUV rammed her. The car crushed the young mother and dragged her to the road’s divider before it stopped, locals said. An angry mob thrashed the driver who was reportedly drunk. Kaazi is survived by her husband and two children.
After the complaint of the deceased’s husband, the Mumbai police registered a case under the relevant sections of BNS and MVA.

Mumbai Police have arrested the accused, identified as 50-year-old Anup Sinha, who is said to be a merchant navy officer. His vehicle was also seized by the police. A blood sample of the accused was also taken as per protocol.
This comes months after the horrific Worli hit-and-run case where a woman was killed after she was dragged for 100 meters when a speeding BMW hit her husband’s two-wheeler.
