Infosys Confirms Joining Dates for Over 1,000 Freshers After Two-Year Delay
After more than two years of waiting, over 1,000 engineering graduates from the April 2022 batch have finally received confirmation of their joining dates from Infosys. The IT giant sent out emails on Monday, confirming that these freshers will begin their employment on October 7, 2024, with their posting in Mysore, India.
The delayed onboarding has been a source of frustration for many graduates, with approximately 1,500 students left in limbo despite having received offer letters in 2022. Many had undergone two rounds of pre-training in July and August of this year, yet their job prospects remained uncertain until now.
Harpreet Singh Saluja, president of the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), a union that has been advocating for the affected students, celebrated the news as a major victory. “After relentless efforts and a formal complaint by NITES, Infosys has finally issued appointment letters to more than 1,000 campus hires,” Saluja said. He also warned that if Infosys fails to honor the October 7 joining date, NITES would not hesitate to protest.
The onboarding delays have affected around 2,000 engineering graduates who were offered roles as system engineers and digital SEs, with annual packages ranging between Rs 3.2 and Rs 3.7 lakh. Many students have moved on to other jobs, while others struggled to secure alternative employment amid the uncertainty.
The delays stem from the subdued demand environment affecting the technology services industry globally. Infosys, like many other IT majors, has faced challenges in growing revenues, which has impacted job opportunities.
Infosys CEO Salil Parekh recently addressed the issue, stating in an interview that while some dates were changed, “everyone will join Infosys” and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to onboarding the freshers.
Last month, after the pre-training rounds, Infosys initially gave a joining date of September 2 to only about 115 students, leaving the rest uncertain about their future. Now, with the new confirmation, thousands of hopeful graduates can finally prepare for their roles at the IT firm.
