Mumbai : ED summons IAS officer Sanjeev Jaiswal in connection with Covid-19 scam

Mumbai, June 22 : Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Senior IAS officer Sanjeev Jaiswal to record a statement at the Ballard Estate office of the probe agency in the investigation of money laundering in the Covid jumbo centre scam on Thursday.

Jaiswal was the BMC additional municipal commissioner during the Covid pandemic when the tenders at inflated rates were awarded to close aides of the ruling Shiv Sena leaders in the MVA regime.

He is currently vice president and chief executive officer of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).

On Wednesday, ED conducted raids across multiple locations in Mumbai in connection with the same.

The raids were conducted against a close aide of Uddhav Thackeray and his son Aaditya as well as an associate of Sanjay Raut.

The raids were conducted on the premises of Suraj Chavan, an associate of Aaditya Thackeray.

ED sleuths had also searched the premises of Jaiswal and 14 others, including Sujit Patkar, a close associate of Rajya Sabha MP and UBT sena spokesman Sanjay Raut.

Recently the Maharashtra government has announced to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe into findings made by CAG, the supreme audit institution, into contracts given out by BMC worth Rs 12,000 crore during Covid 19 pandemic.
