Mumbai News: 27-Year-Old Man Beaten to Death Over Overtaking, 9 Arrested; Horrific Video Surfaces
Malad (East), Mumbai: In a shocking incident of road rage, a 27-year-old man was brutally beaten to death by a mob in front of his family. The victim, Akash Dattatray Mayin, a member of Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), succumbed to his injuries after a violent altercation with autorickshaw drivers on Saturday.
According to the Mumbai Police, Akash and his wife were riding a two-wheeler when an autorickshaw driver, identified as Avinash Kadam, dangerously cut them off and overtook their vehicle. The confrontation began when Akash approached Kadam to discuss the reckless driving. This led to an escalation, with several other autorickshaw drivers joining the brawl.

A disturbing video of the incident surfaced on social media, showing the mob mercilessly kicking and beating Akash. His mother can be seen lying over his body, desperately trying to protect him, while his father was also injured in the attack. Despite their efforts, Akash sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Police Investigation and Arrests
The Dindoshi Police registered a case following a complaint from Akash’s wife. Based on CCTV footage and witness accounts, the police arrested nine individuals involved in the attack. The six accused initially identified were Avinash Namdev Kadam, Amit Joginder Vishwakarma, Aditya Dinesh Singh, Jayaprakash Deepak Amte, Rakesh Malku Dhawale, and Sahil Sikandar Kadam. Three more suspects were arrested later.
A stone used in the assault was also recovered during the investigation. A senior police officer stated, “It was a case of road rage that escalated into violence. The swift action by the police led to the arrest of all the accused, some of whom had fled to other districts.”
The arrested individuals have been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder and other related offences. The accused were produced in court, where they were remanded to police custody until October 22.
In a statement to news agency ANI, a Mumbai Police official said, “Mayin was kicked and punched, resulting in serious injuries. We arrested six persons on Sunday and three more on Monday. They have been charged with murder, and all have been sent to police custody until October 22.”
The incident has shocked the local community and raised concerns over rising instances of road rage in the city.
