Mumbai Police Officers Banned from Dancing During Ganesh Festival
Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar has issued a strict order prohibiting police personnel from dancing during the upcoming Ganesh festival, warning of immediate disciplinary action for any violations. The directive follows previous incidents where videos of officers dancing to traditional beats went viral, raising concerns about discipline during such a major public event.
At a high-level security review meeting, Phansalkar emphasized the importance of police officers maintaining order and vigilance during the festival, stressing their primary role in ensuring public safety. “It’s inappropriate for officers to be seen dancing while on duty,” he stated, reinforcing that any breach of this order will not be tolerated.
The Ganesh festival attracts millions to Mumbai’s streets each year, and police have been tasked with crowd control and security at key locations. Large contingents will be deployed at mandals and immersion sites to maintain order, with officers expected to stay focused on their duties.
While some may see these viral dancing videos as light-hearted moments of celebration, the police department views them as distractions from duty. This directive aims to prevent such incidents and uphold discipline within the force.
