Mumbai-Pune eway to become 8-lane; MSRDC sends proposal to state govt
There are plans to make the Mumbai-Pune Expressway eight-lane. An expenditure of Rs 5,500 crore is expected for this. Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has sent a proposal regarding the same for approval to the state government.
The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is a 94 km long, access-controlled expressway. This six-lane highway was constructed in 2002. However, the traffic between Mumbai and Pune has increased significantly in the last few years. As a result, the total six-lane road with three lanes each is becoming inadequate.
At present, approximately one and a half lakh vehicles travel on the expressway every day. Meanwhile, the newly constructed Atal Setu has brought the distance between Mumbai and Pune even closer. It is likely that Mumbai-Pune traffic will increase further.
Against this backdrop, MSRDC intends to expand the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
