The key benefit of the highway is the significant reduction in travel time between locations, cutting it down from 12 hours to just 6 hours.

The four-laning of the 466 km Goa Highway in Maharashtra is projected to be completed by May or June 2025, effectively halving the travel time. Traveling from Mumbai to Goa will take only 6 hours once the new highway is finished by June 2025.  As per information, some work remains on bypasses, underpasses, and flyovers in areas such as Mangaon, Indapur, Pali, Lanja, Kolad, and Chiplun. Due to various delays, the project’s cost has escalated to Rs 7,300 crore.

The initiative, jointly undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the state government’s National Highway Public Works Department (NH PWD), will feature 14 interchanges to facilitate easier access.

Officials have assured that significant sections of the road will be finished ahead of the monsoon season, despite facing some challenges such as delays, as reported by The Times Of India.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is overseeing the development of the 84-kilometre segment connecting Panvel to Indapur, whereas the Public Works Department (PWD), operating under the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, is responsible for the widening of the remaining section.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is preparing to initiate the construction of a 30 km expressway that will connect Pagote, located near the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link’s (MTHL) landing point towards Panvel, to Chauk Junction on the old Pune Highway. This new corridor will traverse the Uran-Chirner Highway, which begins as Amra Marg from Navi Mumbai, as well as the Goa Highway and Pune Expressway, incorporating several entry and exit points throughout the route.
