A horrific hit-and-run incident occurred in Nagpur, Maharashtra, early today, resulting in the death of two individuals and injuries to seven others. The tragic accident took place near Dighori Chowk in Wathoda when a speeding car driven by an allegedly drunk driver plowed into nine people sleeping on the pavement.
The driver, heading towards Umred Marg, lost control of the vehicle and crashed onto the pavement around 12:30 am. The victims included three women, four children, and two man, all of whom were daily wage earners who sold toys on the streets. One woman reportedly died on the spot, while another person succumbed to injuries during treatment at the hospital.
According to reports, the scene of the accident was chaotic, with a pool of blood marking the tragic event. The driver, identified as Bhushan Lanjewar, fled the scene immediately after the crash, leaving the victims in dire need of medical assistance. The police, upon being alerted, promptly arrived at the site and transported the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The authorities launched an investigation, scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify and apprehend the suspect. Bhushan Lanjewar was later arrested and found to be under the influence of alcohol. Currently, seven of the injured victims are receiving treatment at the hospital, with their conditions being closely monitored.
