National Defence Academy’s First-Term Cadet Dies After Sudden Medical Emergency; Court Of Inquiry Ordered
Pune, 10 July 2026 : A first-term cadet of the National Defence Academy (NDA), Cadet Abhinav Bajpai (17), a native of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, passed away following a medical emergency during routine physical training at the Academy on the morning of 10 July 2026.
Cadet Bajpai had joined the National Defence Academy on 24 June 2026. During the routine morning physical training session, following the first official PT parade after joining the Academy, he complained of uneasiness and suddenly became unconscious.
The cadet was immediately evacuated to the Military Hospital, Khadakwasla, where intensive resuscitative efforts were undertaken by the medical team. Despite dedicated efforts, the cadet could not be revived and was declared dead.
A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the facts and circumstances leading to the incident.
The next of kin of the deceased cadet and Police have been informed.
