The Navi Mumbai airport is set to commence operations in March next year, according to Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol. During his visit on July 13, Mohol reviewed the ongoing construction and expressed confidence that the airport will significantly enhance connectivity for Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Kalyan, and western Maharashtra.

Once operational, the Navi Mumbai airport is expected to handle an annual footfall of nearly 20 million passengers. Mohol also indicated a positive stance on naming the airport after the late PWP leader DB Patil.

Regarding compensation for project-affected persons, Mohol assured that the issue would be resolved through discussions with the management. “We are committed to ensuring that people who have contributed land for the airport project are not displaced,” he emphasized.

In related news, the new terminal building at Pune International Airport is set to open on July 14 at 1 PM. Mohol inspected the terminal on July 12 and highlighted its use of cutting-edge technologies and advanced facilities. He noted that the terminal also showcases Pune’s rich cultural heritage.
