Navi Mumbai International Airport to Commence Operations in 2024: Key Details Here.

Pune: The new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), currently under construction, is all set to begin operations in 2024. Recently, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis conducted an aerial survey of the site, following which Shinde expressed confidence that the project will be completed by the specified timeline.

The inauguration of the new airport will be carried out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shinde announced after reviewing the progress at Ulwe.

Here are the key details about the Navi Mumbai International Airport:

• Situated at the center of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai, the airport is spread across an area of 1,160 hectares.
• The entire project is estimated to cost Rs 16,700 crore. By 2032, the airport will have the capacity to handle 2.5 million tonnes of cargo.
• The airport will be constructed and managed by Adani Airports, one of India’s prominent airport operators. The construction will occur in four phases, with the initial two phases anticipated to be completed by December 2024.
• The construction plan focuses on making the airport one of the most energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable in the world. Electric vehicles will be utilized throughout the airport, and charging stations will be installed on the premises. The airport will extensively employ green electricity, including significant solar power generation on-site. The terminal’s design draws inspiration from the lotus, India’s national flower.
