A proud moment for India came on 27th August (Sunday) when Neeraj Chopra, an Olympics World Champion & world record holder in Javelin Throw, has once again etched his name in the annals of athletics history by becoming the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in men’s javelin throw at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

As per information, the javelin, thrown by Neeraj Chopra, landed at an astounding 88.17 meters. This made Chopra India’s first gold medallist at Athletics World Championships and adds another milestone to his already impressive list of accomplishments which includes Olympics, Diamond League and Asian Athletics Championships gold medals, as well as Asian Games and Commonwealth Games gold medals etc.

Chopra, who is India’s all-time leader in the men’s javelin throw with a world record of 89.94 meters, was also the silver medallist at 2022 World Championships in Oregon. Chopra’s silver medal was India’s first at the global championships, and it was India’s second medal in the event, having won the women’s long jump bronze in Paris 2003.

Chopra has expressed satisfaction at this performance by stating that he wanted to win world championships after Olympic gold. While this is great for the national team, it was his goal to win world championships gold.
