The Bombay High Court has dismissed the Central Bureau of Investigation’s request to block the distribution of the Netflix docu-series ‘The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth’. It was released on Netflix on February 29 after getting the court’s approval.

The docuseries, which investigates the disappearance of Indrani Mukerjea’s daughter Sheena Bora, was set to launch on Netflix on February 23. The CBI had filed a petition in the high court seeking a stay on its release till the trial in the case was concluded. Last Monday, Netflix informed the Bombay High Court that the series would not be released until February 29.

Previously, the CBI petitioned a special court in Mumbai for a stop on the documentary series. However, on February 20, the court rejected the probe agency’s plea.

The CBI then filed a petition with the Bombay High Court to block the series’ release.

During the previous hearing on February 22, a division bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Manjusha Deshpande asked the series’ producers to hold a special screening for the CBI.

Senior counsel Ravi Kadam, representing Netflix, told the court that five witnesses had been interviewed for the series, including Indrani’s son Mikhail (Sheena’s brother) and Vidhie Mukerjea, Indrani’s daughter with Peter Mukerjea.

According to Kadam, three of the five witnesses’ statements have yet to be recorded by the trial court.

According to the CBI, 89 of the 237 witnesses have been interrogated before the trial court.
