A redesigned Aadhaar app is now available for early access on Android and iOS, offering secure, paperless identity verification.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has unveiled a new Aadhaar mobile application for iOS and Android, marking a major shift toward secure, portable, and paper-free identity management. The app is currently in its testing phase, but users can download the early-access version and share feedback before the full rollout.

UIDAI described the app as a reimagined way for residents to engage with their identity, giving them greater control over privacy and accessibility. Through a post on X, UIDAI encouraged residents to try the app and experience instant Aadhaar verification without physical documents.

Key Features Of The New Aadhaar App
The app introduces a range of features designed for convenience, safety, and digital portability:
• Digital Aadhaar sharing via QR code or verifiable credentials, eliminating the need for physical copies.
• Masked Aadhaar sharing that hides the full 12-digit number for enhanced privacy.
• Support for up to five Aadhaar profiles on a single device, as long as they share the same registered mobile number — a helpful feature for parents managing children’s Aadhaar profiles.
• Biometric locking and unlocking to protect sensitive data. Once locked, the biometric details remain secure until intentionally unlocked.

How To Download And Set Up The New Aadhaar App
Users can access the early version on the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. After installing, the setup is simple:

  1. Open the app and choose your preferred language.
  2. Enter your Aadhaar number and verify using the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
  3. Complete authentication using facial recognition or biometric verification.
  4. Add your Aadhaar profile and create a six-digit PIN.
  5. Once activated, users can view their Aadhaar details, generate QR codes, share credentials securely, and manage biometric locks.

The app is part of UIDAI’s continued push toward secure, user-controlled identity solutions, ensuring residents have safe and instant access to Aadhaar wherever they go.
