New Delhi to San Francisco Air India Flight Diverted To Russia Due To Technical Snag
On Thursday, an Air India flight en route from New Delhi to San Francisco was diverted to Krasnoyarsk International Airport in Russia following technical problems, according to a statement from the airline. Flight AI-183, a Boeing 777, was carrying 225 passengers and 19 crew members at the time of the diversion.
Air India communicated the situation through the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter), confirming that the aircraft had safely landed in Krasnoyarsk after changing its route. The airline reassured the public that it is working closely with local authorities to ensure the well-being of the passengers and crew until the flight can resume its journey.
“The safety and well-being of passengers and crew is our top priority,” Air India said in its statement. “We are coordinating with the relevant authorities to provide the necessary support and assistance to all individuals on board.”
This incident marks the second occurrence in just over a year where an Air India flight on the same route has been diverted to Russia due to technical issues. In June of the previous year, another Boeing aircraft faced a similar situation, resulting in a temporary stop at Magadan Airport.
In response to the current situation, Air India has dispatched a ferry flight, AI1179, from Mumbai to Krasnoyarsk. Scheduled to arrive at 2000 local time on 19 July 2024, the ferry flight is equipped with essentials and food to support the passengers and crew at Krasnoyarsk International Airport. An Air India team, including crew and security personnel, is on board to provide necessary assistance.
For families and friends seeking information about the affected passengers, Air India has established a dedicated hotline:
- – India: 011 – 69329301
- – USA: +13177390126
Air India is committed to resolving the technical issues promptly and will provide further updates as the situation progresses.
