New flyover linking South Mumbai to T2 Airport expected to open on Feb 15, easing traffic woes

A new 790-meter-long flyover connecting Terminal 2 (T2) of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to south Mumbai is nearing completion and is expected to be open by February 15. Constructed at a provisional cost of ₹48.43 crore by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), the flyover aims to alleviate traffic congestion at the perennially busy Vile Parle traffic signal outside the domestic terminal on the Western Express Highway (WEH).

The flyover is anticipated to be open for commuters by February 15, providing a smoother route from the airport to south Mumbai.

The flyover aims to help motorists bypass heavy traffic at the Vile Parle traffic signal on WEH, facilitating a quicker commute from Terminal 2 to destinations like Bandra and south Mumbai.

Construction Details:

• The construction of the flyover began in June 2021.
• The provisional cost for the project is ₹48.43 crore.
• The unique inverted T-arrangement on steel portal beams was adopted for raising girders, providing temporary support, and ensuring traffic movement during construction.

While the exact date for opening the elevated road for motorists is yet to be clarified, there is speculation that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may inaugurate several infrastructure projects in Mumbai, including this flyover, later this month.
