Air India and Air India Express are set to inaugurate operations at the new Pune airport terminal starting July 14. The first flight from this terminal, AI – 858 bound for Delhi, marks the beginning of a phased transition for all airlines operating at Pune airport.

This state-of-the-art terminal boasts a spacious, centrally air-conditioned environment spanning over 52,000 sqm. It features an impressive ten passenger boarding bridges, doubling the convenience for travelers moving between the terminal and aircraft. With 34 check-in counters and 25 self-check-in counters, the terminal promises a swift and efficient check-in process.

One of the standout features of the new terminal is its in-line hold baggage handling system, equipped with advanced security screening technology. This system ensures a seamless and secure baggage check-in process, integrated with the airport’s overall baggage handling system.

To cater to passenger comfort, the terminal offers 915 sqm of space for food and beverage facilities and 1206 sqm for retail outlets, providing ample refreshment and shopping options.

Architecturally, the terminal blends modernity with cultural richness. The city-facing side is adorned with a grand canopy and features a prominent statue of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The veranda, stretching over 400 meters, showcases murals depicting Pune and Maharashtra’s rich cultural and historical heritage, reminiscent of the Shaniwar Wada architecture.

With a capacity to handle nine million passengers annually, compared to the previous seven million, the new terminal signifies Pune’s growing prominence in air travel infrastructure.
