Ā Good News for Punekars: Direct Flights to Bhopal, Indore from October 27
Since the recent inauguration of the new terminal at Pune Airport, authorities have enforced strict regulations on passenger pickups. According to Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke, cab and autorickshaw drivers face a fine of Rs 500 if caught picking up passengers directly from the new terminal building. Dhoke emphasized that pickups must occur exclusively from the AeroMall area to maintain order.
A tweet by a commuter said, āAll the rick guys now pick up your baggage and see you post the toll gate manned by none other than our homegrown BVG chaps – a housekeeping company which has now transmogrified into a toll Collection company.ā
Airport officials highlighted the implementation of operational boom barriers at all terminal gates, with thorough checks for vehicles bearing yellow number plates. Currently, autorickshaws are restricted from dropping passengers inside the terminal but are expected to be allowed soon, following the established entry and exit protocols similar to those of the old terminal.
“There are boom barriers at all exits of the building,” Dhoke reiterated, stressing the necessity of compliance to ensure smooth operations within the new structure. Additional measures include electric buses and battery-operated cars facilitating passenger transport to the AeroMall.
Meanwhile, issues surfaced at the old terminal where leakage near the arrival area caused inconvenience to travelers. Despite this, Dhoke confirmed plans to shut down the old terminal soon for extensive renovations due to ongoing aircraft and passenger activities.
“We expect to shift all operations to the new terminal by August 15, closing down the old terminal for approximately a year,” stated an airport official. This transition aims to streamline operations and enhance passenger experience amid growing flight operations. While the new terminal promises improved facilities, adherence to regulations remains crucial to avoid penalties for violating pickup norms.
