NGT directs PMC not to cut a single tree under River Front Development project
In OA 80 of 2023 filed by Sarang Yadwadkar and Pushkar Kulkarni before National Green Tribunal, today (NGT) came down heavily on Pune Municipal Corporation.Â
“If it is clearly mentioned in the DPR that not a single tree will be cut for the RFD project.” And, “If the Environmental Clearance also states that no tree is to be cut, why are you cutting trees?”, NGT questioned PMC. Not a single tree should be felled for the RFD project by PMC till all permissions are procured, NGT further directed.
Since last many weeks, PMC has been destroying innumerable trees by way of cutting or even burying. Thousands of Punekars have raised voice against this destructive act of PMC by joining a Chipko Andolan held on 29.4.23.
Today’s order of NGT exposed PMC’s nefarious plans of environmental destruction under the garb of “development”.
PMC’s arguments were presented before NGT through Adv. Rahul Garg along with Superintending Engineer Yuvraj Desmukh and Garden Superintendent Ashok Gorpade. Applicants were represented by Adv. Ritwick Dutta of LIFE of New Delhi.
