Nitin Gadkari Unveils ₹4,200 Crore National Highway Projects To Boost Connectivity To South Goa
Panaji, Goa: Marking a new chapter in Goa’s infrastructure development, six key national highway projects worth ₹4,200 crore were inaugurated and launched in Vasco yesterday. The event was graced by Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, Minister Sudin Dhavalikar, Minister Aleixo Sequeira, along with legislators and officials.
The projects, covering 58 km, aim to enhance connectivity and provide modern facilities, particularly in South Goa. A key highlight of the inaugurated projects is the 4-lane loop project on National Highway 566, featuring a curved cable-stayed railway overbridge. This engineering marvel links Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) via a flyover, showcasing world-class engineering and modern technology.
Another significant project involves the construction of a 4-lane flyover from MES College to Bogmalo Junction, expected to streamline traffic. Additionally, four other projects, including portions of NH-66 and NH-748, were inaugurated and launched.
The NH-66 corridor will ensure seamless connectivity from Mumbai to Kanyakumari, passing through key locations in Goa, such as Pernem, Mapusa, Porvorim, Panaji, Margao, Cuncolim, and Canacona. Meanwhile, the NH-748 project focuses on the Fonda to Boma section, enhancing connectivity between Hyderabad and Goa through Khandepar, Ponda, Boma, Old Goa, and Panaji.
These projects are set to improve the lives of locals, boost trade and tourism, and provide a significant thrust to Goa’s economy. Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant emphasized the state’s commitment to infrastructure growth under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reiterated the goal of making Goa a hub of seamless connectivity and development.
