No Blackout In Pune During May 7 Nationwide Mock Drill, Confirms District Collector
Pune | May 6, 2025: Pune will not experience any power blackout during the nationwide civil defence mock drills scheduled for May 7, District Collector Jitendra Dudi confirmed on Monday. While the city will participate in preparedness activities, blackout exercises are not included in Pune’s drill plans.
“The mock drill is purely precautionary; there is no reason to panic,” Dudi stated. “We are acting under the guidance of the Central Government to ensure public readiness. All decisions regarding the drill are centrally coordinated.”
In Pune city, the drill will begin at 4 PM at the Council Hall, while rural locations such as Talegaon Nagar Parishad and Mulshi Panchayat Samiti will conduct similar exercises. The drills aim to test emergency protocols such as siren alerts, evacuation methods, and coordination among various agencies including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Pune District Administration, PMC, PCMC, and defence bodies.
“If a war were to occur, we must be prepared,” Dudi emphasized. “A siren will be used as a warning. Those who hear it must move to safety. Those who don’t will be located and evacuated as part of the drill.”
College students will also assist in guiding citizens, making the exercise both a preparedness and awareness initiative.
