Pune: With Maharashtra state facing an acute shortage of coal, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has started load shedding in rural parts of Pune.

In places like Manchar, Mulshi, and Rajgurunagar, temporary load shedding has started on Wednesday.

“The load shedding will be done for one or two hours in a day at Mulshi, Manchar, and Rajgurunagar. If required load shedding will continue to other villages as well. We aim to do minimum load shedding,” said a spokesperson from MSEDCL.

“There will be no load shedding done in the parts of Pune city. However people should save electricity where ever they can,” added MSEDCL spokesperson.

Along with industrial production, the power consumption of agricultural pumps has also increased. As a result, the state has a record demand of more than 28,000 MW.

Due to the shortage of coal in the country, thermal power generation has also declined under the MSEDCL contract in the last few days. As some thermal sets are closed for maintenance and repair, MSEDCL is currently getting 6000 MW less power from thermal power generation.
