No More Paperwork: Aadhaar Update and Sharing Made Easy with UIDAI's Upcoming App

People with Aadhaar will soon be able to share their identity details electronically instead of giving photocopies. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is working on a new mobile app that will allow users to share a full or limited version of their Aadhaar through a QR code.

Currently, many Aadhaar details cannot be changed online. For example, to update your name, gender, or date of birth, you must go to an Aadhaar Enrolment or Update Centre in person. Only address changes are allowed online. But UIDAI is working on a system that will let people change their address, phone number, name, and date of birth from home.

The new mobile app will come with a QR code feature. People can use this QR code to show their Aadhaar identity without sharing the full details unless needed. This QR code can either display the complete Aadhaar information or a masked version that hides some details. The goal is to give users more control over how their data is shared.

UIDAI also collects information from documents like birth certificates, driving licences, passports, PAN cards, PDS cards, and MNREGA records, hence they are also planning to link electricity-bill records to confirm people’s addresses. These steps will help in verifying identity and reducing the chances of fake documents being used.

Aadhaar Use to Expand Across Services

Moreover, UIDAI is talking to hotels, security firms, and other service providers to include them in the Aadhaar system. These are businesses that are not required by law to use Aadhaar right now, but UIDAI wants to bring them on board. The aim is to make it easier for people to use their Aadhaar in more places, while keeping full control of their personal data.

With these upcoming changes, UIDAI is trying to make the Aadhaar system easier and safer to use. Sharing identity will soon take only a few taps on your phone, and most updates will no longer need a visit to a centre. Only the fingerprint and iris scans will still need to be done in person.
