License for pets will be available online on Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.

The civic body has taken a new initiative for pet owners by providing them the facility to get the pet license online.

There are approximately three and a half lakh stray dogs and almost 80 thousand to one lakh domestic dogs in the municipal area. This includes the rural dog count too. Animal lovers in the city have to get a license from the municipal health department every year for their pets. The pet owners are needed to submit the documents like rabies vaccination certificate, proof of residence address, photo of the pet receipt of payment of tax, no-objection certificate of the society, etc. to the municipal corporation.

Also, the owner of the dog has to write an affidavit stating that he will not let the dog outside the boundaries of his own place, in place or on the street, he will keep the dog happy and take care of the thing that it will not hurt anyone, and will not take him on public place or on road. Previously, all dog licensing procedures were carried out manually by field offices. Due to the time taken in the dog licensing process, now the tedious process is over.“Given the fact that the pandemic is recurring in the form of various waves, it is a welcoming step taken by the government of India to renew pet licenses online. Renewing the pet license is an essential document to be procured by the pet owners which gives all the information about the pet. It can be used in case of any uncalled-for event such as pets being kidnapped/going missing or even at the time of vaccination,” said Sangeeta Iyyer from Sanskriti Society.

“It is a good idea to have it online – It will be convenient for all. As it will provide a data register to follow up regarding the vaccinations and will help in figuring out who is the family of this pet, in case it gets lost or is found somewhere injured. With people being made aware of this via social media it will help a lot. Since many NGOs are working in helping the stray dogs this would be helpful for them as well as they can showcase the data if they need fundings,” said Kirti Gaud, an animal lover from Roseland Residency.
