Pune: The residents of Lohegaon have expressed their concerns regarding the placement of advertising billboards on trees in the vicinity.

It has been observed that trees are sometimes harmed to display advertisements.

Lohegaon resident Nilay Bagle asserted, ”The practice of affixing advertisement posters on trees should be completely prohibited, and individuals found engaging in this activity should be subjected to substantial fines. Trees suffer damage as a consequence, which subsequently affects their capacity to generate oxygen.”

Another resident, Sameer Mehar, added, ”Numerous complaints have been lodged, yet no action has been taken in response. Nailing posters on trees cause significant harm as trees are also living organisms.”

Furthermore, resident Shlok Sarolkar emphasized, ”Trees are living organisms and should not be subjected to harm by nailing advertisements on them. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) should take strict measures against those individuals involved in such practices. Although trees are being fenced, the fencing itself is covered with numerous posters.”

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Ravi Khandare, Tree Officer stated, “We impose fines on individuals caught nailing advertisements on trees. We make an effort to contact them using the provided phone numbers on the posters and impose fines accordingly. If we are unable to establish contact, an FIR is registered against them. The nails embedded in trees are removed by the Garden Department once informed.”
