Ongoing Trench Work Near Shree Hospital Causes Traffic Chaos On Pune Nagar Road

A trench dug opposite Shree Hospital on Nagar Road has been lying open for the past two weeks, leading to severe traffic congestion during peak hours. The trench, which covers more than half the width of the crucial arterial road, has been barricaded but remains incomplete, causing significant inconvenience to commuters.
Despite repeated attempts by citizens to identify the responsible department, neither the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Road Department nor the Project Department has provided clarity on the matter. Workers present at the site reportedly had no knowledge of the trench’s purpose or the agency overseeing the work. Moreover, no PMC engineer has been found monitoring the site, further adding to public frustration.
Qaneez Sukhrani, Convenor of the Association of Nagar Road Citizens Forum, has raised the issue with PMC officials, demanding immediate action. In a letter addressed to Dr. Bhosale, she expressed concern over the lack of accountability and transparency in public infrastructure work. “Even if a trench has to be opened, it must be completed quickly. This kind of delay is unacceptable at a major junction,” she said.
Sukhrani also questioned the absence of a mandatory information board at the site, as required under PMC’s Trenching Policy. “The public has the right to know which department and contractor are involved, especially when such prolonged disruption is caused,” she added.

The citizen group has demanded full reinstatement of the road with original materials by April 20, 2025, and closure of the trench measuring approximately 20m x 20m.
