Pimpri, August 29, 2025: The ongoing Ganesh Idol Collection Drive by the Environmental Engineering Department of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has received an enthusiastic response from citizens. As of 12 noon on August 29, 2025, a total of 3,334 idols have been collected from eight municipal zones. Among these, 670 are eco-friendly clay idols, while 2,664 are made of POP.

PCMC has set up dedicated idol collection centres to promote an environmentally conscious Ganesh festival. Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh has directed officials to record whether each idol is made of POP or clay at the time of immersion. The department is closely monitoring the collection process to ensure proper, eco-friendly disposal.

The initiative is being implemented under the guidance of Commissioner Shekhar Singh, Additional Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate and Chief Engineer Sanjay Kulkarni, with zonal officers overseeing the drive.

The civic body has also launched the ‘Punaraavartan’ (Reuse) Campaign in collaboration with Eco Exist Foundation. This campaign involves collecting clay from immersed idols and returning it to sculptors for reuse in future idol making, further promoting sustainability.

Officials have appealed to citizens to continue using the PCMC centres to ensure clean and green celebrations while preventing pollution in rivers and water bodies.
