Pune, May 16 : A total of 3594 young women in the age group of 16 to 25 years have gone missing from Maharashtra over the past three months, Rupali Chakankar, Chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women said on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference, she targeted the Shinde- Fadnavis government over the shocking statistics of missing girls.

Chakankar said that there should be no politics and the state government should first pay attention to the case of missing girls. She also said that the statistics of missing women and girls on the website is alarming.

She also said that the state government is not showing the required readiness.
At the same time, she suggested that the Home Department should establish an independent committee for the investigation of women and conduct a search operation, and the report of the action taken should be submitted to the State Women’s Commission every 15 days, she added.

Chakankar said that 3 thousand 594 women are missing in the state between January 1 and March 31, although some of them have been found, overall this is a serious matter. It has also come to light that girls are being misled and sexually exploited by luring them for jobs, marriage and love, she added.
