Passenger Arrested At Pune International Airport With Hydroponic Weed Worth ₹33.6 Lakh
Pune, April 4, 2026: In a significant drug seizure, officials from the Air Intelligence Unit of the Pune Commissionerate intercepted a passenger arriving from Bangkok at Pune International Airport on April 3, 2026.
The passenger was travelling on an Air India Express flight (IX-241) when he was stopped based on profiling by the authorities. During the search of his handbag, officers discovered hydroponic weed (marijuana) concealed in two transparent vacuum-sealed packets.
The packets were wrapped internally with carbon paper in an attempt to evade detection.
A total of 960 grams of the contraband was seized, with an estimated illicit market value of approximately ₹33.60 lakh. The passenger was subsequently arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
Officials confirmed that further investigation into the case is currently underway.
