Chaos erupted at Pune airport on Tuesday as SpiceJet Flight SG-8937 to Delhi took off 14 hours behind schedule, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded.

The delay was a ripple effect of the late arrival of the incoming flight from Dubai, which was delayed by 18 hours. The Dubai-Pune flight (SG-52) was supposed to take off at 02.05 IST but finally took off at 18.30 IST, causing a chain reaction of delays. Passengers who were booked on the Pune-Delhi flight were left frustrated and furious as they waited for hours with no clear indication of when the flight would take off. Many were forced to spend the night at the airport, with some even booking hotel rooms in Pune.

“It’s been a nightmare,” said Vinod Gaikwad, a passenger who was booked on the flight. “We were supposed to take off at 7.20 am but it’s already 9.30 pm. We’ve been left stranded here with no food or water.”

Pallavi Kulkarni’s parents, who were also booked on the flight, were stuck in Dubai for over 12 hours. “It’s unacceptable,” Pallavi said. “Who will take responsibility for this mess?”

SpiceJet officials apologized for the delay and said that it was due to the late arrival of the incoming flight from Dubai. However, passengers were not convinced. “This is not the first time SpiceJet has delayed a flight,” said Santosh Palkhe, a frequent flyer. “They need to get their act together.”

The incident highlights the need for better management of flight schedules and communication with passengers to avoid such delays and inconvenience.
