Pune, February 5, 2025: Several key infrastructure projects, including the construction of a fire station near Dr. Hedgewar Bhavan in Akurdi and the concreting of major roads, were approved today by Administrator Shekhar Singh during the Standing Committee meeting. The meeting, held at the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) headquarters, also addressed multiple civic improvement initiatives requiring the Standing Committee and Municipal Corporation’s approval.

The new fire station near Dr. Hedgewar Bhavan in Akurdi aims to enhance public safety and ensure prompt emergency responses. The project, with an estimated cost of ₹30.64 crore and a completion deadline of 18 months, will include a 10-story building housing six fire engines. This facility is expected to play a crucial role in minimizing casualties and property damage during fire emergencies.

Additionally, major road development projects were sanctioned. The 24-meter wide, 1,420-meter long road from Madhuban Hotel to Indira Road, and the 18-meter wide, 1,120-meter long road from Silver Spoon Hotel to Indira Road will undergo concreting. Furthermore, the 18-meter wide connecting road extending to Wakad Shiv will also be concreted. These projects, totaling ₹58.45 crore with a 30-month completion period, will feature safe pedestrian pathways, organized parking, efficient stormwater drainage, road dividers, and dedicated cycling tracks. The developments are expected to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and help conserve fuel.

In addition to these, several community and civic improvement projects received approval. Contracts for the maintenance and repair of public and community toilets were awarded to women’s self-help groups, including Janhavi Mahila Bachat Gat, Shubhashree Mahila Bachat Gat, and Savitribai Phule Swasahaya Mahila Bachat Gat. Upgrades to water drainage systems in areas such as Dighi, Bopkhel, Nigdi Gaothan, and Akurdi were also approved.

Other sanctioned projects include hot-mix asphalting of newly acquired roads in Tathawade, Punawale, Wakad, and adjacent areas along the Pune-Bangalore Highway, stormwater line installations in Chikhli, Sai Nagar Mamurdi, and Kudulwadi-Pawarvasti, as well as road improvements in Pimple Saudagar, Rahatani, and Nevalewasti.

The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioners Vijaykumar Khorate and Chandrakant Indalkar, along with heads of various departments and concerned officials.
