For the first time in the history of the PCMC till date, a record tax has been collected in six months. In the last six months, it has succeeded in collecting tax amounting to Rs 579 crore from more than 60 percent of taxpayers.

On the other hand, two percent late fee will be applicable from today to the property owners who do not pay tax despite repeated appeals. A vigorous campaign will be undertaken to confiscate the properties of the defaulters.

Shekhar Singh, PCMC Commissioner, said “The tax collection and taxation department of the municipal corporation had decided to distribute property tax bills to women in women self-help groups this year. It was named Project Siddhi. This decision has been justified by women’s self-help groups. Women shared 100 percent of the bill. Therefore, citizens preferred to pay taxes in the first half. The property registration drive has picked up speed. In this too, a large amount of employment has been provided to the women of the women’s self-help groups in the city. Citizens should respond to this campaign for accurate registration of their properties.”

Nilesh Deshmukh, Assistant Commissioner, PCMC Tax Department, said “More than 60 percent of property owners have paid their taxes in six months. Therefore, the focus will now be on collecting tax from the remaining 40 percent property owners in the 6th month of the financial year. In this, the sole aim of the department will be mainly to recover the tax arrears for many years and 100 percent recovery of the current tax. For this, a drastic decision like seizure of property has to be taken.”
