Memorandum submitted to Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi and Mayor Ravi Landge

Pimpri-Chinchwad: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is facing sharp criticism over the recent increase in property transfer fees. BJP city president and corporator Shatrughan Kate has strongly opposed the move, directly questioning the civic administration over what he called an “unjust and excessive” charge.

Kate has submitted a detailed memorandum to Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vijay Suryavanshi, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the current 0.5% fee levied on the total market value of a property. A similar representation has also been made to Mayor Ravi Landge.

In his memorandum, Kate stated that the new fee structure imposes a significant financial burden on citizens. Homebuyers already pay substantial amounts in stamp duty and registration charges, and the additional municipal fee effectively creates a double financial strain.

“Earlier, only a nominal fee was charged for property transfer, which was sufficient to cover administrative costs. Introducing a percentage-based fee purely to boost revenue is an unfair practice,” Kate said.

He further pointed out that such high charges discourage citizens from officially registering property transfers with the municipal authorities. This, he warned, could ultimately impact the corporation’s revenue collection in the long run.

Highlighting the rising cost of living, Kate noted that paying lakhs of rupees for property transfer is unaffordable for many families. He said the decision has led to growing dissatisfaction among residents and urged the administration to take the matter seriously.

Kate has demanded that the 0.5% fee be scrapped immediately and replaced with the earlier nominal charges. According to him, this would not only ease the financial burden on citizens but also make the transfer process simpler, more transparent, and efficient.

“We will not tolerate the 0.5% property transfer fee that puts an unfair burden on the common citizens of Pimpri-Chinchwad. We will continue to follow up with the administration until this fee is revoked and the earlier nominal charges are reinstated. If needed, we will also launch a democratic protest to ensure justice for citizens,” said Shatrughan Kate.
