Ever since the visit of PM Narendra Modi to Serum Institute in Pune, PCMC had started the preparations to identify the storage locations for the COVID – 19 vaccine. As a progression to its preparation, PCMC has identified 32 locations to store the COVID – 19 vaccine, with a plot in YCM controlled by PCMC Health department, as the central location for the vaccine storage and only location that has been revealed by the civic body.

According to the information obtained from Municipal Commissioner, Shravan Hardikar, and Health official, Varsha Dange, it states that PCMC has also began registration for health workers, as the first batch of COVID – 19 vaccine will be given to the health workers. The civic body revealed that “We have identified 32 spots for the storage of COVID – 19 vaccine. Since, we haven’t received any circular from the central government, or the state, we cannot reveal the locations or our preparedness. But the basement area of YCM, which falls under the control of PCMC Health department, will be an ideal and central location for the vaccine storage, and the vaccine will be transported from the centra location to other key spots through the two vehicles we will deploy for the transportation.”

Pune Pulse had in the past reported on the PCMC’s preparedness for the vaccine storage and transportation. In order to confirm the information, Pune Pulse reached out to the Dean of YCM, Rajendra Wable, he said, “I haven’t recieved any circular to make provision in our hospital for the storage purpose, but the basement area in our hospital is controlled by PCMC, and probably, it can be used for the vaccine storage purpose.”
