PCMC runs vaccination camps within housing societies

Maharashtra has been one of the most affected states in the country recording maximum number of cases. In the state, Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad cities apart from Mumbai, Nagpur, Aurangabad and other cities have recorded the most number of cases in the last few days.

After announcing restrictions on movements and complete lockdown during the weekend, the other measure taken by the state government is to vaccinate people. In order to accomplish a sizable number of vaccinations in the twin town, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is now holding one day vaccination camps in several housing societies. 

On April 5, 2021 Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation took up the challenge of vaccinating more than 25,000 people on a single day. 
Several housing societies came forward in taking up vaccination camps within their premises. Pune Pulse spoke to a few society representatives on the initiative and how well was it responded to by the citizens.

Vishal Data, secretary, Leon Orbit society in Pimple Saudagar said, “We are planning to conduct vaccination in our society . We are looking for a sizable number where the vaccination on a large scale can be conducted. We have received few confirmations and are looking for a few more.” 

Giving more details about the vaccination camp that is being held in Roseland Residency in Pimple Saudagar, Santosh Maskar, chairman of the society said, “We have received 350 registration and are confident that more people shall avail the facility. We have received good responses from the members of our society. Decision on holding it again shall be taken within a few days.”


Shatrughan Kate, local corporator of Pimple Saudagar said, “One day vaccination centers have been set up at Hotel Govind Garden and SNBP school in Rahatani, apart from the permanent vaccination centers which are functioning from Annasaheb Magar school and another PCMC school in Rahatani. The response has been good so far. People are visiting the new centers too, to get themselves vaccinated. Our target is to reach atleast 300 citizens at the end of the day.”

Ganesh Bora, director, Rotary Club of Walhekarwadi informed Pune Pulse that the vaccination center was inaugurated on April 4. On the first day we had about 63 people, but today on April 5, 2021 we have crossed  the mark of 125 people who got themselves vaccinated. Slowly, the numbers are increasing. We have spread the word among the neighbouring localities about our center in the last few days.” 


Another Corporator from Vitthal (Nana) Kate told Pune Pulse that we are helping a lot of societies to set up vaccination centers. These centers are mainly for people above 45 years and above. Those who are aware about the facility are walking towards us and also enquiring on if it will be held later too. 

Vinod Surve, chairman, Kunal Icon society said, “We are planning to hold it on April 6 / 7, as per the registrations we get.”
