Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s decision to collect property tax and collect water tax together seems to be successful.

Till now, for the first time in the history of the municipal corporation, water tax of Rs 63 crore has been recovered. Also, Assistant Commissioner of Tax Collection and Taxation Department, Nilesh Deshmukh, has expressed the intention to recover the record amount of water tax in the remaining 28 days.

Pradeep Jambhale Patil, Additional Commissioner, PCMC, said “While the income of the tax collection department was increasing, the water supply tax was not being recovered. Therefore, the decision of some Municipal Corporations in the state to collect taxes and collect water tax together was studied in a meticulous manner. Accordingly, meter inspectors were assigned to the tax collection department. As a result, the graph of water tax recovery is increasing. It is also proposed to pay property tax and water utility bills together in the upcoming financial year 2024-25. This will make it easier for citizens to pay property tax and water bills. Also, we intend to recover 75 crores worth of water by March 31.”

In Pimpri-Chinchwad city, there are 3 lakh 11 thousand 391 residential, commercial and industrial water supply connections. In some Municipal Corporations in the State, combined operations of water collection and tax collection are carried out. Those municipalities were studied by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Administration. Under the guidance of Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh, Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale-Patil took the initiative for this.

Meetings were held with officials from tax collection and water supply departments, meter inspectors.
