PEHEL 2023 e-waste collection drive receives great response from Pune citizens

A mega campaign was organized by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and several social organizations in Pune city on November 05, 2023.

 The objective of the campaign was to raise awareness and gather e-waste and plastic. Spanning across 300 locations in Pune city, the campaign took place from 9 am to 1 pm on Sunday.

During the campaign, the citizens of Pune exhibited great enthusiasm in their response, resulting in the collection of 15 tonnes of e-waste and 8 tonnes of plastic waste. Additionally, every individual who donated e-waste was issued a donation certificate as a token of appreciation.

The inauguration of the campaign took place at Shivarkar Park, Wanowrie, with the presence of the Deputy Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation and the Head of Solid Waste Department Sandeep Kadam. 

The inaugural function was chaired by Saujanya Veguru, the Head of CSR at Cummins India Company, and the Director of Marketing at KPIT Technologies, Dr. Dhananjay Jadhav, Assistant Health Officer Ketki Ghatge were present.

During the inauguration of PEHEL 2023, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kadam urged the residents of Pune to separate their wet and dry waste, as well as electronic waste, within their households. This initiative aims to facilitate the Municipal Corporation in efficiently disposing of all forms of waste in a systematic manner. Additionally, he disclosed plans to establish collection centers in 23 gardens across Pune in the initial stage, solely dedicated to the collection of electronic waste.

During the event, Saujanya Veguru contributed e-waste from her personal residence and expressed her belief that everyone should participate in this commendable endeavor. 

The Deputy Director of Janwani, Mangesh Kshirsagar, inaugurated the program and provided an overview of the institute’s efforts to minimize e-waste. He also announced plans to establish permanent e-waste collection centers in different communities.
